For some reason I have always thought that DU was based off CM, but it’s not, only just a few hours ago when I was looking stuff about the ROM up I found out that it’s actually based off AOSP since Lollipop. Not sure why that’s relevant to my review or why I’m even telling you, but I was struggling with words and couldn’t write an introduction for the life of me, so here you go..
UI Feel and Smoothness
The first thing that I noticed about DU is how fast it is, seriously, it is very fast. So fast that I quickly caught on to their cheaty illusion of turning the animation speed from the default 1.0 to 0.5x speed which made everything seem a lot faster, so for fair comparison I turned it back to 1.0x speed. I’m telling you this because I know that some people will tell me “Oh DU just seems fast because they turned the animation speed up”, so I want to prevent that.
That said though, DU is still very very smooth and responsive, it’s impressive. While switching between apps, launching new apps, everything happens very quickly, assuming you have them loaded in RAM (in the recent apps panel). Seriously people, stop closing your apps all the time, it doesn’t help at all.
Every app that I’ve used has been smooth and lag-free, switching between apps is very fast. On DU 9.3 there was a super annoying problem where the recent apps button would just not work the first few times you pressed it but that’s fixed in 9.4 and everything is quick and smooth now.
Battery life has been very good, I’ve been averaging around 6 hours of SOT and a full day (9AM – 11:30PM) of use. There’s not much more to say about it than that, there are some screenshots of my battery stats down below. My usage is mainly messaging apps and web browsing on WiFi with fairly low brightness, but even on days where I was outside on LTE and full brightness for an hour I still got great SOT.

Day 4: http://imgur.com/a/F3SxX – That weird gap was a random reboot, the only one in 6 days though.
Day 5: http://imgur.com/a/eq2kx – This was a weird day, I have no idea what happened here, but still got 5h30m of SOT.
Day 6: http://imgur.com/a/JTUIQ – I rebooted about 4 times this day and still got 7h of SOT, inside on WiFi all day.
Features and Customizability
Feature wise, DU is pretty awesome. It doesn’t have everything, but it has more than enough. App Circle Sidebar, OmniSwitch, Gestures Anywhere, lots of status bar customisations, Ad blocker, Wakelock blocker and the usual customisations.
It also has a very good looking, somewhat useless task killer built into the notification panel. As I said before, closing/killing apps all the time isn’t a good thing so I don’t recommend using this feature too much, but it’s a nice thing to have.
Overall Impressions and stability.
Overall I’ve really enjoyed my time on this ROM, the 9.3 build had this very very annoying bug where the recent apps button just didn’t work the first few presses, that was fixed in the initial 9.4 build. 9.4 broke NFC, which was fixed the next day so I can’t really complain about that.
App Ops also does not work, at all, trying to change an apps’ permissions just crashes settings, so if you value that then you shouldn’t flash this ROM.
Fast, stable and nice on the battery. This is definitely a good daily driver, everything works and I would recommend it to anyone that’s looking for a reliable and balanced ROM.
